The Hard Yards Pay Off For Answer-4u Charity
13 October 2011
Well, the aching feet have been rested, the blisters have subsided and the tee-shirts, shorts and towels are no longer sweaty but washed, fragrant and fluffy.
And the results are finally all in for the Answer-4u Robin Hood Marathon Team (well, almost)!
Thirteen good souls and true set out to cover various distances (a grand total of around 138 long, hard kilometres between them, in fact) all to aid the 3 major charity appeals at Nottingham University Hospitals for Breast Cancer, Prostate Cancer and Clown Doctors for children.
Dan White, completed the full marathon in just over 4 hours for a splendid personal result, while the marathon relay team (Adrian, Matt, David, James and Glenn) completed the course in a scorching 2 hours 54 minutes (amazingly, nearly 5 minutes faster than the first Olympic marathon champion).
Sarah Fry celebrated a personal best by 13 minutes in the half marathon crossing the line in a superb 2 hours and 9 minutes.
In the “mini” marathon, the not-so-mini 4.2 kilometre course was conquered by Craig Dring, Charlianne Gonzalez, Joyce Gonzalez-Lane, Helen Harrison, Rebecca Hazelden, Veronica Jennings, Paul Price and Dallas McAlonan.
Veronica and Charlianne deserve extra-special mentions for their runs – with both recording blistering sub-24 minute times.
Dan summed things up saying: “I think we all really enjoyed today – and the effort of the Answer-4u team has been nothing short of amazing. We all pulled together so well and we’d like to thank everyone who came along to support us and everyone who sponsored us for making today such a success!”
As at the time of writing the grand total on the account at http://www.justgiving.com/Answer-4u stood at £1291.40 - or a superb 129% of the initial target.
Director Glenn Harrison was delighted, smiling: “We know there’s quite a lot more money still to come in as well – and of course it is not too late for you to make a donation if you’ve forgotten!”
So, it only remains to thank everyone involved for all that they’ve done – be it supporting, sponsoring or slaving round the running track.
And thank you again in advance so much for helping us to smash our target for NUH! It means a lot to us – and it’ll mean even more to the patients that your efforts and generosity will help us to support.
From all at Answer-4u
